Canada citizenship physical presence: track the days
Adult citizenship applicants generally need 1,095 days of physical presence in Canada during the five-year eligibility period before applying. Some time as a temporary resident or protected person may count as half-days, up to the current cap. Use IRCC’s official calculator for the application.
What the tracker supports
A private travel timeline can help reconcile entries and exits before using IRCC’s calculator. It does not determine eligibility or replace the signed calculation submitted with an application.
Keep categories separate
Record dates with the immigration status held at the time. Full-day physical presence and eligible pre-permanent-resident half-day credit are not interchangeable.
- Anchor the period to the planned application date.
- Review the current maximum credit for earlier status.
- Keep a margin for errors and future travel instead of planning to the exact minimum.
Fictional example
Example only: Sam has 1,020 full days after becoming a permanent resident and earlier eligible temporary-resident time. Sam should enter both periods in the official calculator because the earlier time may receive partial, capped credit.
